Click to AI WhatsApp Chat WordPress Plugin: Add a Floating WhatsApp Button (2026)
A floating WhatsApp button is the fastest way to turn website visitors into conversations — one click and they're chatting with you on an app they already have open. The free Click to AI WhatsApp Chat plugin for WordPress adds exactly that: a customizable floating button that opens a normal WhatsApp chat with your number. No account, no API key, no templates and no cost per message. Download, upload, and you're live in about five minutes. Here's everything it does and how to set it up in 2026.
Why a WhatsApp button matters
The numbers make the case: WhatsApp messages see a 98% open rate versus roughly 20% for email, and the median response time on the platform is under 90 seconds. For stores, the effect is bigger: abandoned-cart recovery runs 15–30% over WhatsApp versus 2–5% by email. A chat bubble is the highest-converting way to capture a visitor's attention on any page, from homepage to checkout.
If you're weighing options, we've written two companion guides: three ways to add a WhatsApp chat button to WordPress and the best WordPress WhatsApp plugins for 2026. This post goes deep on the free Click to AI WhatsApp Chat plugin.
What the Click to AI WhatsApp Chat plugin gives you
Click to AI WhatsApp Chat is a free WordPress plugin (WordPress 6.0+, PHP 7.4+) that adds a floating button to your site. When a visitor clicks it, the plugin opens a chat — wa.me/<number>?text=<message> by default, web.whatsapp.com when you pick the "web" target, or chat.whatsapp.com/<code> when a group invite code is set. Because it uses plain wa.me links, there's nothing to connect: no API key, no WhatsApp Business account, no templates and no per-message cost. It works with any number, including a personal one.
The feature set, in one list:
- Message: your number, an optional group invite code, and a pre-filled message supporting the {SITE_TITLE}, {SITE_URL}, {PAGE_TITLE} and {PAGE_URL} variables.
- Label: optional CTA text next to the button, like "Chat with us".
- Tracking: an optional Google Analytics dataLayer event per click.
- Style: 8 ready-made SVG icons, custom image/GIF upload, color pickers, three shapes, sizes from 32 to 120px.
- Position: 7 presets, custom offsets and z-index, separate desktop and mobile settings.
- Animation: pulse, bounce, shake or ring.
- Display rules: pages, post types, devices, visitors, delay, scroll and business hours.
- WooCommerce: product-page buttons with product variables, shop/archive buttons and per-card buttons.
- Shortcode: [techpad_ai_whatsapp] with number, message, size, icon, label and color attributes.
All settings live on one screen at Settings → Click to AI WhatsApp Chat, with a preview so you can see changes before saving.
How to install and set up the plugin
Six steps, about five minutes:
- Download the plugin. Grab the zip from the Click to AI WhatsApp Chat page — direct: techpad-click-to-ai-whatsapp-chat.zip.
- Upload it. In wp-admin, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the zip and click Install Now.
- Activate. Click Activate Plugin.
- Open the settings. Go to Settings → Click to AI WhatsApp Chat.
- Enter your number. Type the full international number, country code first, digits only — 919876543210 for India, for example. No +, spaces or dashes. Add a pre-filled message if you want.
- Preview and save. Check the button with the preview, then click Save Changes.
That's it. The button is live across your site — or exactly where you tell it to appear, which the next section covers.
All the options, explained
General
The General tab covers the essentials: the WhatsApp number, an optional group invite code, the pre-filled message (with {SITE_TITLE}, {SITE_URL}, {PAGE_TITLE} and {PAGE_URL} auto-filled), the open-in target (auto or WhatsApp Web), the CTA label, and the Google Analytics dataLayer toggle.
Icon & style
Pick one of the 8 ready-made SVG icons — WhatsApp logo, WhatsApp bubble, chat bubble, bubble with dots, bubble with text lines, headset, message square or paper plane — or upload your own image/GIF from the media library. Color pickers set the button background and icon. The shape can be round, rounded-square or square, and the size runs from 32 to 120 pixels.
Position
Seven presets: bottom-right, bottom-left, bottom-center, right-center, left-center, top-right and top-left, plus custom pixel offsets and z-index for finer control. Position, offsets and size are configured separately for desktop and mobile (under 782px) — bottom-right on desktop, bottom-center on phones, say.
The label behavior lives here too — tooltip on hover, always-visible label, or none — plus the animation: none, pulse, bounce, shake or ring.
Display rules
By default the button shows on the entire site. To limit it, choose "Only on the pages listed below" and enter page URL fragments or IDs, one per line — or use "Everywhere except listed" to hide it on specific pages. You can also hide it on particular post types, restrict it to desktop or mobile, show it only to logged-in users or guests, delay it by seconds, reveal it after a scroll percentage, and set business hours (days plus from/to, in your site's timezone).
WooCommerce
With WooCommerce active, this tab adds WhatsApp buttons to your store. On product pages you get three placement options — floating, after add-to-cart or after product meta — with {PRODUCT_NAME}, {PRODUCT_PRICE} and {PRODUCT_URL} filled into the message automatically. There's also a floating button on shop and archive pages, and a small button under every product card in shop, category and tag listings.
Advanced
The Advanced tab offers custom CSS for full control over the button's look, plus a preview button on the settings page.
Message templates that convert
The pre-filled message is what turns a click into a qualified conversation — ask for what you need up front. In the templates below, {{1}} marks the dynamic slot — the plugin fills it from its variables ({PRODUCT_NAME} on WooCommerce pages, {PAGE_TITLE} elsewhere), or you replace it manually.
| Use case | Pre-filled message template |
|---|---|
| Product questions | Hi! I'm looking at {{1}} and have a question before buying. |
| Pricing | Hi, I'd like a quote for {{1}}. |
| Appointments | Hello! I'd like to book a {{1}} slot. |
| Support | Hi, I need help with {{1}}. |
Two copy-and-paste blocks to start — paste them into the message field in Settings:
Hi {{1}}! Thanks for visiting. How can we help you today?
Hello {{1}}, we've received your message and will reply shortly — usually within minutes during business hours.
When to upgrade to the WhatsApp Business API
The plugin is deliberately inbound-only: a visitor clicks, and a normal WhatsApp chat opens with your number. That's enough for most small sites, and it stays free forever — no API key, no templates, no per-message cost.
You should consider The Tech Pad when you outgrow one-to-one replies. The platform adds a shared team inbox so every agent answers from one place, plus campaigns, automations, an AI copilot and analytics. If you want to send notifications — order updates, appointment reminders, abandoned-cart nudges — you'll want the API. Meta's per-message pricing for utility messages runs around ₹0.10–0.30 in India, and UTILITY templates typically approve in minutes to hours. The plugin works alongside all of this: your button still opens a chat with your number, and a Tech Pad account (free to start) connects whenever you're ready.
FAQ
Do I need an API key or a The Tech Pad account to use the Click to AI WhatsApp Chat plugin?
No. The plugin opens a normal WhatsApp chat (wa.me) with your number — no account, no API key, no templates and no cost per message. A Tech Pad account is only needed later if you want automatic notifications and a shared team inbox.
How do I add the WhatsApp number?
Type the full international number with the country code, digits only — no +, spaces or dashes. Examples: 919876543210 for India, 447911123456 for the UK, 12025550179 for the US.
Can I show the button only on some pages?
Yes. Under Display rules choose "Only on the pages listed below" and enter page URLs or IDs, one per line. You can also hide the button on specific post types, limit it to desktop or mobile, show it only to logged-in users or guests, delay it by time or scroll, and set business hours.
Does it work with WooCommerce?
Yes. Enable the WooCommerce tab to add WhatsApp buttons on product pages (floating, after add-to-cart or after product meta), on shop and archive pages, and under every product card — with {PRODUCT_NAME}, {PRODUCT_PRICE} and {PRODUCT_URL} filled into the message automatically.
Can I change the icon and colours?
Yes — pick from 8 ready-made SVG icons (WhatsApp logo, bubbles, headset and more) or upload your own image/GIF, then use the colour pickers for the button background and icon. Shape, size and an animation (pulse, bounce, shake, ring) are all configurable.
